Our cows roam free

Our small herd has more than 550 acres where they can munch on grass, drink clear water from springs, and frolic through the fields.

Because our ranch is below the snow line, it's warm enough for them to enjoy the outdoors year round. The trees provide shade in the summer, and we never contain them in barns.

Just as nature intended.

100% grass-fed beef

Our cows eat grass and alfalfa hay exclusively. They are 100% grass finished. They take more time to grow and need a lot more space than conventional beef that is fattened on corn and grains.

But that's alright with us. We don't hurry our cows, and we want them to enjoy their lives, sustained on the grass they were meant to eat.

We irrigate some pastures to ensure the cows have access to nutrient-rich green grass year round.

Calves with mamas

Our calves stay with their mothers, nursing until they naturally need to wean before the next calf is born. There is no rush to wean the calves to fatten them with corn.

Our calves grow up in a free-roaming herd, able to socialize and explore their whole lives. Young calves recognize other calves their age and enjoy playing together.

We minimize stress their whole lives, and our cows do not go to a slaughterhouse.

Sometimes I joke that I’m not a “real” rancher. Instead of roping the calves or doing a traditional cattle drive, I teach the cows to come when I call. Each generation of cows teaches the next what the sound of my four-wheeler and my call means—a special treat of alfalfa hay!

Meet Eeyore, guard donkey

She is extremely protective of all the new calves. Her feisty kicks keep the coyotes, and the occasional mountain lion, away from vulnerable newborns.

Happy cows. Ethical beef.
